April 23. The St. George's Society was founded in honor of the patron saint of England. 1734 April 9. The parish of St. John's Colleton was carved out of St. Paul's and the parish of Prince Frederick out of Prince George Winyah. August 14. Thomas Sumter was born in Virginia. 1735 German Swiss immigrants began settlement in Orangeburg township. Rhineland German immigrants began settling Saxe-Gotha township in modern Lexington County. The governors of both Carolinas appointed a commission to survey the boundary between North Carolina and South Carolina.

January. A committee of the Charlestown Library Society was appointed to consider establishing a museum. This was the origin of the Charlestown Museum. In June Lieutenant Governor William Bull II, president of the Library Society, announced the formation of a special committee for collecting materials. May 10. The Tea Act became law. December 9. The Charlestown Chamber of Commerce was organized. December 22. The tea that had been brought to Charlestown under the Tea Act was unloaded and stored in the basement of the recently-built Exchange.
